TOWARDS FAIR LABOUR MOBILITY: The role of the civil sector in combating trafficking for labour exploitation

On Tuesday, 25th of May, the Construction Workers Union and IGM Serbia (SRG, IGMS) have organized a three-day training for their members about social and labour issues of manual workers who are migrants in Western Balkan and European union.

The director and one of the founders of ASTRA, Marija Andjelkovic, has provided information about issues regarding human trafficking, experiences, and the role of civil society organizations in combating trafficking for the purpose of labour exploitation

The event discussed the working specifics of hiring migrant workers in the manual labour sector with a special focus on obligations under Convection MOR number 143, about migrant workers (Professor Helga Špadina, Faculty of Law in Osijek, Croatia), analysis, actions and methods, a case study from Belgium (Eva Maria Jimenez Lamas, Migrants, CSC-Brussels, Belgium – Salvador Alonso Merino trade union representative, construction sector, ACV-CSC BIE, Belgium).

Knowing that trafficking in human beings for labour exploitation is more and more common, it is very important to cooperate with Construction Workers Unions and other organizations dealing with labour rights.
