On 15 and 16 March 2023, in Sarajevo, the RAI Secretariat (Regional Anti-Corruption Initiative – RAI), in cooperation with the AIRE Centre (Advice on Individual Rights in Europe) is organizing the Annual Alumni Conference “Effective Asset Recovery in the Western Balkans”.
The conference is organized within the project “Combating corruption and organized crime in the Western Balkans through strengthening regional cooperation in asset recovery”. Since 2019, supported by the UK Government, the project is being implemented in all six Western Balkans jurisdictions, with the participation of Bulgaria, Croatia, Moldova and Romania.
The topics that will be discussed at this expert meeting are Asset recovery in the Western Balkans through the lens of practitioners, Special investigative measures and financial investigations, Taxation of undeclared income – legal framework and practice in Montenegro, ECtHR Jurisprudence in the matters of property acquired by criminal activity, Social reuse of confiscated criminal assets – visibility as a tool in the fight against organized crime and corruption, Crypto assets – approach of lawmakers and practitioners in Western Balkans…
On the second day of the conference, on the panel Social reuse of confiscated criminal assets – visibility as a tool in the fight against organized crime and corruption, the director and one of the founders of ASTRA, Marija Anđelković, will speak about the experiences from the work of our organization, and the way in which this topic is treated in our country and implemented in practice.
