UN workshop – how to involve the civil, business sector and universities in monitoring of implementation of Palermo Convention

October 10-11, 2019. Vienna: Assessment workshop was organized by the UN Office on Drugs and Organized Crime on how to involve the civil, business sector and universities in the newly established mechanism to monitor the implementation of the United Nations Convention on Transnational Organized Crime. In the first panel, the director of ASTRA presented 20 years of experience in monitoring the implementation of this and other international documents, as well as the challenges in working at the beginning of ASTRA’s work and today.

Some of the questions the participants tried to answer were how can non-governmental actors effectively and meaningfully contribute to addressing trafficking in persons, what are some of the best practices that can serve as examples, what are the challenges for non-governmental actors in effectively addressing trafficking in persons, what capacity/knowledge would be required for non-governmental actors to better do their work on trafficking in persons.
