UN recommendations regarding the conduct of States in the Covid-19 era

In the context of current events, United Nations’s experts have made several recommendations – special procedures – regarding the conduct of States in the Covid-19 era. These recommendations concern the freedom of the media and the free flow of information, the right of access to clean water, the fight against xenophobia and racism, and the global recession that lies ahead, during which human rights and freedoms must be preserved.

1. Governments must promote and protect access to and free flow of information during pandemic

2. COVID-19 will not be stopped without providing safe water to people living in vulnerability

3. States should take action against COVID-19-related expressions of xenophobia

4. An immediate human rights response to counter the COVID-19 and the global recession ahead is an urgent priority
