The Judicial Academy, in cooperation with the Council of Europe, is organizing a HELP online course for judges and prosecutors on the topic of combating human trafficking and protecting victims of human trafficking, which will be led by Judge Biljana Sinanovic and ASTRA Director Marija Andjelkovic.
The HELP online course is organized within the framework of the joint program of the European Union and the Council of Europe “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey III” and the project “Strengthening the Fight against Human Trafficking in Serbia”, and with the support of the HELP (Human Rights Education for Lawyers) program of the Council of Europe and is free of charge.
The course deals with the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings and the case law of the European Court of Human Rights, as well as other international legal instruments and examples of good practice at the national level, with the protection of victims of human trafficking remaining a central topic.
The course includes modules on the legal framework, identification and assistance to victims of human trafficking, the principle of non-punishment, investigation, prosecution and victims’ rights, compensation, etc. All areas are covered in a practical manner, using presentations, videos, interactive panels and exercises. The course has 11 modules and is planned to last eight weeks.
