Ommision by the Court of Appeal in Belgrade leaves millions in hands of trafficker

Even though Safet Cucak was convicted of human trafficking and sentenced to ten and a half years imprisonment, his assets will not be confiscated due to an omission by the Court of Appeal. Namely, Decision on the confiscation of criminal assets cannot be mate later than three months after the judgment becomes final. In this case, however, the Decision was made after eight months. For this reason, Cucak will keep numerous real estates, cars and money he acquired through perennial sexual exploitation of women and girls.

This is just one of many indicators that efforts need to be put in improving the work of judicial authorities on human trafficking cases in Serbia, for confiscation of assets and adequate penalties remain crucial conditions for successful fight against trafficking and establishment of society free of exploitation and violence.
