„Child Rights in Serbia – Recommendations of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child and the Universal Periodical Review“

The Child Rights Center in cooperation with the Uzice Child Rights Center and the organization ASTRA, held a conference targeting the citizens‘ associations and media „Child Rights in Serbia – Recommendations of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child and the Universal Periodical Review“, on 25 September 2017.

The conference that took place in the House of Human Rights and Democracy was opened by Tanja Sreckovic, on behalf of the Office of Human and Minority Rights of the Republic of Serbia, and Sladjana Radulovic of the Child Rights Center.

Marija Petrovic, on Behalf of the Child Right Center, presented to the audience selected Concluding Remarks of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child with recommendations, as well as the actions necessary to be undertaken in the upcoming period as to improve the child rights in the Republic of Serbia. Radovan Cicvarić of the Uzice Child Rights Center and Ivana Radović on behalf of ASTRA – Antitrafficking Action, pointed out the importance of the received recommendations in the area of education and protection of children victims of trafficking.

The audience received the publication “Child Rights in Serbia –Concluding Remarks of the Committee on the Rights of the Child with Recommendations”, developed within the framework of the mentioned project with the aim of offering, to as many associations of citizens and media as possible, a closer insight of the Concluding Remarks of the Committee on the Rights of the Child.

Additionally, a contribution of an association of citizens related to child rights realization, which had been prepared for the 29th Session of the Third Cycle of the Universal Periodic Review for the Republic of Serbia, was presented at the conference.  Sonja Toskovic from the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights, with reference to that, was the first one to point out to the challenges in realization of human rights of the migrant children, asylum seekers and refugees in the Republic of Serbia.

The final part of the conference was dedicated to discussion on the received recommendations, on suggestions of the associations of citizens for their realization, and on directions of further possible actions.
