ASTRA’s comments on the the Strategy for prevention and combating human trafficking, especially trafficking in women and children

The Government of Serbia has endorsed, at today’s session, the Strategy for prevention and combating human trafficking, especially trafficking in women and children, and protection of victims for the period 2017-2022, which provides a more adequate and efficient response of the state and the society to the issue of human trafficking.

It has been conveyed that the Strategy will improve the system of prevention, aid and protection of victims, and actions against human trafficking, especially trafficking in women and children, through a functional connection and institutional capacity development of all the partners.

„The adopted Strategy is the second strategic document of the Government of Serbia, which has been passed in relation to the issue of human trafficking, and which will provide a comprehensive response of the society to the human trafficking, in line with the new challenges, risks and threats.”, the statement conveys.  

The Government communicated that the Strategy establishes “a partnership of the state organs and the civil society on the strategic and operational level. Programs for staff training have been introduced in the institutions, projects related to education and raising awareness of young people have been envisaged with the aim of recognizing the complexity of the problem and identifing and protecting the victims of trafficking”.

It is added that the Strategy has been developed in accordance with the current EU policy related to eradication of human trafficking and migrations, and that the Action Plan for the Strategy Implementation for the period 2017-2018 is its integral part.
