At the invitation of the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA), ASTRA’s Director, Marija Andjelkovic, took part in the two-day Winter School of Law entitled “Combating Human Trafficking”, held on 28 and 29 January 2026 in the conference hall of the Faculty of Law, University of Belgrade.
The Winter School brought together professors of the Faculty of Law, representatives of civil society, and law students, with the aim of examining key legal aspects of combating human trafficking through both theoretical and practical perspectives, with a particular focus on sexual and labour exploitation.
During the third session of the first day, Marija Andjelkovic delivered a presentation on “The Position and Realisation of the Rights of Victims of Human Trafficking in Judicial Proceedings in the Republic of Serbia”, presenting ASTRA’s experience from direct work with victims, as well as the challenges they face throughout criminal proceedings.
The programme of the Winter School also covered topics related to the international legal framework, case law and victim protection standards, as well as practical examples from organisations providing support to persons exposed to labour and sexual exploitation, thereby offering students a comprehensive insight into this complex social and legal issue.
