“SURVIVING VIOLENCE – CONSEQUENCES ON THE PSYCHOLOGICAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH OF THE VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING”

 

ASTRA organized panel discussion “Surviving Violence – consequences on the psychological and physical health of the victims of domestic violence and human trafficking” with the support of the Ministry of Health of Serbia on November 15, 2016. Participants at the panel discussion were both students and experts in the fields of psychology, medicine, social work and education that come in contact with victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. In this way, future and present experts learned more about the consequences for the psychological and physical health of victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. Speakers at the panel discussion were: Tanja Ignjatovic, psychologist from the Autonomous Women’s Center, Slobodan Savic, professor at the Belgrade University School of Medicine, Biljana Slavković, psychotherapist of the Institute of Psychodrama and Jovana Krotic, psychologist from ASTRA. All speakers emphasized the importance of early identification of exploitation, as well as early response and the elimination of prejudice about the victims, in order to improve the treatment of victims. After the event, ASTRA published a reader with texts of the speakers which may be useful reading for all health professionals who may come in contact with victims of domestic violence and human trafficking.
